(During Lent, the Liturgy of the Hours, Evening Prayer (Vespers) will be held on Fridays, at 5:45 pm in the St. Francis Chapel.

The Rosary: This is a popular devotion tradition of the church, but the exact origin of the Rosary as a prayer is less than clear and subject to debate among scholars. … According to tradition, the Rosary was given to Saint Dominic in an apparition by the Blessed Virgin Mary in the year 1214. This Marian apparition received the title of Our Lady of the Rosary. The praying of the Rosary has been highlighted by the Blessed Mother herself during some of her other apparitions to the people of the world. Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, “The Rosary is . . . where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known . . .  The power of the Rosary is beyond description.”  Lent is a perfect time to access this powerful tool of prayer.

The Liturgy of the Hours: The Hours contain psalms and readings that were said by Jesus in the Temple and the saints throughout history. A group of parishioners at SSPP are praying Morning Prayer as part of the Liturgy of the Hours.  These prayers take 10 to 15 minutes of our time in giving praise and glory to God and are directly connected to the Mass hence, why it is said before the 9:00 am Mass. The Liturgy of the Hours are prayed by the Pope, clergy, religious and lay individuals that want to have a deeper spiritual connection to our Lord and the Communion of Saints. Lent is a perfect time to come and pray these beautiful ancient prayers.  Prayer books are provided.
